End of Innocence-b1

End of Innocence” 30 x 48 Oil 2001 by Tom Kelly

This  is a large oil painting dealing with the events of 9/11 in New York and the World Trade Centers. The nice cuddly cat is holding a dead bird in its mouth and the old baby with a tie is trying to grab and play with it. The buildings are painted in a style that reflects the crumbling structure of our cities both physically and socially while the cat and the baby are painted in a more realistic style. My son and I visited New York shortly after 9/11 and I remember my son’s look on his face as I lifted him up to look through the fence and see the destruction. He said “I sure hope they get the guy that did this”
